Biosystems Technology is combining biological and electronic components to create bio-hybrid systems solutions. Within this Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Priority Research Program 'Innovation Network Biosystems Technology' the Rostock groups develop electronic sensor systems consisting of live cells such as nerve cell networks intimately combined with silicon chips and the Greifswald groups design bioprocess monitoring systems by combining genes, proteins and rapid read-out electronic chips. Thus, the emphasis of our network is at the molecular and cellular level of biosystems technology.
